Marianne Shifrin, clarinet

    Marianne Shifrin is Principal Clarinet of the New Mexico Philharmonic. She has also been a member of the Arizona Opera Orchestra since 2010, and was recently appointed as Second Clarinet of the El Paso Symphony.
    Previously Shifrin held positions with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra in Colorado, and the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic. She is a frequent guest musician with many orchestras in the western/southwestern US, such as the Tucson, Phoenix, Colorado, and Midland -Odessa Symphonies, and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic.
    Shifrin has performed at the Music Academy of the West, and the Aspen, Sarasota, Chautauqua, and Bowdoin music festivals. Her summers are currently spent performing with the Artosphere Festival Orchestra in Arkansas, and the Missouri Symphony. Chamber music appearances include the Phoenix Winter Chamber Music Festival, Albuquerque’s Chatter Series, and as clarinetist with the August Winds, a Dallas based wind quintet.
    Shifrin received her Bachelor of Music Degree and a Performer Diploma from Indiana University, and her Master of Music degree from Yale University. Her principal teachers include Eli Eban, David Shifrin, and Bill Jackson.
