Laura Steiner, viola

    Violist Laura Steiner is a member of the New Mexico Philharmonic and a teacher of violin, viola, and music theory. She also performs with the Santa Fe Symphony, Performance Santa Fe, and Chatter, and has been featured as a soloist with the Albuquerque Youth Symphony, the New Mexico Philharmonic, the Masterworks Festival Philharmonic Orchestra, and the University of Alabama Huxford Symphony Orchestra.
    Steiner is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Viola Performance, String Pedagogy, and Music Theory at the University of New Mexico, and graduated with a Bachelor of Music summa cum laude from the University of Alabama. At UNM, she is a member of New Music New Mexico and collaborates with the composition studio.
    Steiner maintains a private studio with violin and viola students and teaches freshman music theory courses at UNM, as well as assisting with applied viola lessons. Her principal teachers include Kimberly Fredenburgh, Susan Kempter, Wendy Richman, Daniel Sweaney, Gabriel Gordon, and Derek Reeves. When not playing or studying music, she enjoys cross-stitching, reading, and hiking.
